William Roden (Service No 2537) was born in Austinmer, NSW.

At enlistment William was married, 26 years old, and worked as a labourer; he had served 3 years with the St George Rifles.  William nominated his wife Margaret Anne as his next of kin.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A68 Anchises with 45th Battalion, 5th Reinforcement on 24th August 1916.  After arriving in England on 11th October 1916 he was sent to join 36th Battalion, C Company in Belgium, and joined up with them on 7th November 1917.

On 4th April 1918 William was wounded and evacuated to hospital for treatment of severe shell contusions. 

William returned to Australia on 8th November 1918 and was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 23rd May 1919.
