Roy William James Wilson Shaw (Service No 20293), was born in Balgownie, N.S.W., in 1895.

At enlistment he was single, 21 years old, worked as a wheeler and had served 3 years with 37th Infantry Militia.

Roy embarked on HMAT A71 Nestor, from Melbourne, VIC, with 9th Field Company Engineers, on 21st November 1917. He arrived in Egypt on 15th December 1917, and was sent to England on 29th January 1918. Roy served in England until 21st August 1918, he then went to France and served on the Western Front.

Roy was granted leave in England, and on 21st June 1919, he married Elsie Fowler, in Birmingham, England. Roy and Elsie returned to Australia, in February 1920, and he was discharged on 7th April 1920.

Roy and Elsie had one child.

Roy died in Sydney, N.S.W., in 1948.
