Frederick Cockbain (Service No 2119) was born in Carlisle, England.  On 27th June 1910 he married Hannah Simpson in Penrith, England and they eventually had 9 children. In June 1913, Frederick and Hannah arrived in Australia.

At enlistment Frederick he was 27 years old, worked as a farmer and the family lived at Bellambi, N.S.W.  He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A63 Karoola with 2nd Battalion, 6th Reinforcement on 16th June 1915. 

After Frederick arrived in Egypt he was sent on to Gallipoli for the August campaign.  He landed on Gallipoli on 6th August and served there for just 5 days before being wounded and evacuated to hospital for treatment of a severe bomb wound to his right thigh.

Frederick was repatriated to Australia in March 1916 and after further treatment in Australia was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 8th August 1916.

After his return the family moved to the North Coast of N.S.W. where Frederick worked as a carpenter and stone mason.  Frederick was an enthusiastic cricketer and fisherman. 

Frederick died in December 1954 and is buried in Caramba Cemetery, Coffs Harbour, N.S.W.

Frederick's service is commemorated on the Corrimal-Bellambi Honour Roll.
