Thomas Farrington
Thomas Farrington (Service No 22799) was born in Lancashire, England and came to Australia some time after 1911.
At enlistment Thomas was single, 23 years old, worked as a locomotive driver and lived at Helensburgh, N.S.W.
He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A8 Argyllshire with 7th Brigade Field Artillery, Reinforcement 1, on 11th May 1916. The troops arrived in England on 10th July 1916 and after training, Thomas joined 7th Artillery Brigade in France on 29th December 1916.
He saw service on the Western Front as a gunner until 11th September 1917, when he was wounded in action and evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of a severe gun shot wound to his left forearm and hand.
Thomas was repatriated to Australia in February 1918 and discharged from the AIF on 24th May 1918, medically unfit, due to his hand wound.
In 1919 he married Mary Hodson in Helensburgh and they raised 2 children together.
Thomas died in 1971 and is buried in Bulli Cemetery.
Thomas' service is commemorated at the Thirroul-Woodward Memorial Park.
