Phillip Henry Potter
Phillip Potter (Service No 4272) was born in Mittagong, NSW.
At the time of enlistment Phillip was single, 30 years of age, employed as a labourer and resided in Balgownie, NSW.
Phillip embarked on HMAT A60 - Aeneas with 3rd Battalion, 13th Reinforcements on 20 December 1915. He arrived in Egypt and was transferred to 2nd battalion on 14 February 1916.
The 2nd Battalion arrived in France on 28 March 1916 and went into battle at Pozieres, France. Sometime between 22 and 25 July 1916, Phillip was wounded in action and was evacuated to hospital for treatment of shrapnel wounds to his back.
Phillip returned to his unit on 3 October 1916 but was wounded a second time soon after. He was evacuated to hospital on 8 November 1916 for treatment of a gun shot wound to his right thigh.
Phillip was repatriated to Australia in July 1917 and discharged as medically unfit after further treatment on 2 February 1918.
In 1918 Phillip married Mabel Hilton.
Phillip died in 1960 and is buried in Northern suburbs Cemetery. He is remembered on the Balgownie War Memorial 1914-1918.
