Alfred Skeats (Service no 3887) was born in Blaney in 1892.

At the time of enlistment Alfred was a single, 24 years of age, employed as a miner and resided in Scarborough, NSW.

Alred embarked on HMAT A68 - Anchises with the 30th Battalion, 9th Reinforcements on 24 August 1916.   He arrived in England on 11 October 1916 and joined the 30th Battalion in France on 23 December 1916.

Alfred saw service on the Western Front until he was wounded in action on 27 March 1917.  He was evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of gun shot wounds to his thigh and ankle.  Alfred did not return to active service.

Alfred was returned to Australia in January 1919 where he received further treatment.

Alfred was discharged on 24 May 1920.

Alfred married Margaret McAlister in Tumut in 1920 and together they had one child.

Alfred died in Punchbowl in 1952.   His brother Cecil Reginald Skeats (Service no 5205) also served.
