Archibald Smith (Serevice No 673) was born in Bathurst, N.S.W.

At enlistment Archibald was single, 27 years old worked as a plumber, lived in Wollongong, N.S.W., and had served with the Militia.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A8 Argyllshire with 1st Field Artillery Brigade, 1st Ammunition Column on 18th October 1914. After training in Egypt Archibald landed with 3rd Battery on Gallipoli soon after the landing.

He served until 14th August 1915 when he was wounded in action and evacuated to hospital for treatment of a bullet wound to his leg.  Archibald was eventually sent to England and finally returned to his unit in France on 16th June 1916.

He saw service on the Western Front and was repatriated to Australia in December 1917 where he was discharged medically unfit with debility on 28th August 1918.

On 3rd September 1919 he married Jessie Swan at Dapto, N.S.W. and the couple raised 3 children.
