William Boyd
William Boyd (Service No 2794) was born in Glasgow, Scotland around 1882. The family came to Australia and settled in Helensburgh, N.S.W.
At enlistment William was single, 33 years old and worked as a fireman. He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A8 Argyllshire with 1st Battalion, 9th Reinforcement on 30th September 1915.
On 4th November 1915 he was admitted to hospital in Egypt having contracted mumps.
On 17th March 1916 William was transferred to 114th Battery, 25th Howitzer Brigade and arrived in France with them on 17th June 1916.
On 3rd April 1917 he was transferred to 6th Army Field Artillery Brigade, 106th battery.
William saw service on the Western Front as a gunner.
In late 1917 and most of 1918 William was in and out of hospital with various illnesses and finally deemed unfit for active service and repatriated to Australia in January 1919 and discharged medically unfit with sciatica on 4th May 1919.
It is believed he died in Murrurundi, N.S.W. in 1928.
