Joseph Francis Dillon
Joseph Dillon (Service No. 210) was born in Killmore, VIC.
At the time of enlistment he was a single 28 year old baker living in Wollongong, NSW. His sister Margaret, of Wollongong, is listed as next of kin.
Joseph embarked on HMAT A40 Ceramic with the 19th Battalion A Company on 25th June 1915 for Egypt. He then went to Gallipoli from where he was evacuated to hospital on 15th September 1915, with eye trouble. While in Egypt Dillon suffered from tonsilitis. He arrived in England on the 9th September 1916.
After this Joseph joined the 19th Battalion in France on 13th December 1916 and saw service on the Western Front.
He was returned to Australia in April 1919 and was discharged on 27th July 1919.
In World War 2 he saw service (Service No. V5382) from 2nd September 1940 until 19th July 1943 with the 115th General Hospital. His next of kin is listed as Nellie.
An obituary in the Jerilderie,NSW newspaper in October 1947 lists a wife and daughter living in Melbourne, VIC and states that Joseph had worked in the area for some time before becoming ill.
