William James Dobbie
William Dobbie (Service No. 6674) was born in Wollongong, NSW in about 1899.
At the time of enlistment he was a single 18 year old farmer.
He embarked on HMAT A18 Wiltshire with the 17th Battalion 19th Reinforcements on 7th February 1917. William arrived in England on 11th April 1917 and joined the 17th Battalion in France on 5th February 1918.
Seeing service on the Western Front until 31st August 1918 William suffered an accidental gun shot wound to his knee. He was returned to Australia in 14th February 1919 and discharged medically unfit, due to his knee, on 28th April 1919.
William died in Wollongong, NSW in 1959 and is buried in Wollongong Cemetery.
