Charles Roberts (Service No. 4197/ 80635) was born in Albury NSW.

At enlistment he was single, 27 years old, employed as a labourer, and lived at Tarrawanna, NSW.  He had served 3 years with the citizen militia.

Charles embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A20 Hororata with 1st Field Artillery Brigade, 5th Reinforcement on the 10th April, 1915.

He arrived in Egypt and was sent to Gallipoli on the 2nd June, 1915 where he served with the Artillery until being sent to fight in Europe.  Charles arrived in France on 25th June, 1916, and joined 114th Heavy Battery.  He was wounded in action on the 17th October,1917 and admitted to hospital for treatment to his injuries from a gas attack. On the 22nd October, 1917 he was returned to duty.

On 18th December 1917 Charles he married Bride Bolger in London.

Charles was returned to Australia in April,1919 and discharged on the 11th August that year.

On 5th July 1919 and before his discharge was official, Charles re-enlisted and was accepted for service with the Special AIF; he returned to London on the Orontes on 8th July,1919.

Charles was discharged from the Speical AIF, in London. on 1st April 1920.
