Sydney Thomas Slater
Sydney Slater (Service no 993) was born in Sydney, NSW.
At the time of enlistment, Sydney was single, 28 years of age, resided in Wollongong, NSW and was employed as a fireman.
Sydney embarked on HMAT A35 - Berrima with 20th Battalion, C Company on 25 June 1915. He arrived in Egypt and was sent to Gallipoli, Turkey.
On 12 October 1915, Sydney was admitted to hospital in Gallipoli, Turkey with Pneumonia. Sydney arrived in France on 25 March 1916 and saw service on the Western Front.
On 3rd February 1917 he was transferred to and served with the Light Rail Company until the end of the War.
Sydney was returned to Australia in February 1919 and was medically discharged on 3 June 1919.
On 26 December 1921, Sydney married Mary Corrigan in Newcastle, NSW and together they had 2 children.
Sydney was working for Public Works at Port Kembla, NSW when he died suddenly in 1936.
