James Watson (Service no 1397) was born in Carluke, Scotland in 1876.

At the time of enlistment James was married, 40 years of age and employed as a miner in Woonona, NSW,  He had listed his wife Mary as next of kin.

James embarked on HMAT A38 - Ulysses with the Mining Corps, Reinforcement 1 on 20 February 1916.  After a brief stop in Egypt, he joined the 2nd Tunnel Company in France on 5 May 1916.

James saw service on the Western Front as a miner. 

James returned to Australia in May 1919 and was discharged on 27 August 1919.

James died in 1938 and is buried in Bulli Cemetery.
