Jonathan Burley (Service No 7474) was born in Wollongong, NSW.

At enlistment he was single, 19 years old and worked as a carpenter; he had served 3 years with the Cadets and 2 years with the Militia.

Jonathan embarked from Sydney on SS Makarini with 1st Division Signal Company, 16th Reinforcement and arrived in Egypt on 3rd April 1916.

He was admitted to hospital in Egypt on 5th April 1916 with knee problems and this resulted in his being reppatriated to Australia in July 1916.

Jonathan was discharged medically unfit due to synovitis of the left knee on 14th September 1916.

On 19th September 1919  Jonathan married Mary Wren in Oberon, NSW, and they had 2 children.

He died in 1972.

Jonathan's brother Charles Burnley (Service No 9834) also served.
