Lance Hampton Edwards
Lance Hampton Edwards (Service No 5087), was born in Berry, N.S.W.
At the time of joining the Waratah March, with his brother John, known as Claude (Service No 5086), he was single, 21 years old, worked as a labourer, lived in Kiama, N.S.W., and had served in the Militia.
Lance embarked on SS Makarini with the 1st Battalion, 16th Reinforcement, on 1 April 1916. He arrived in France on 17 May 1916, and joined the 1st Battalion on 9 January 1917.
Lance saw service on the Western Front and was returned to Australia in April 1919.
Lance was discharged on 28 July 1919.
In 1922, he married Mabel Dixon, in Kiama, N.S.W., and they had 5 children.
Lance died in Kiama, N.S.W., in 1965.
Lance is commemorated for his service on the Kiama Memorial Arch and Honour Rolls.
Lance's brothers Herbert (Service No 59737), John (Service No 5086) and Alfred (Service No 4534A), also served.
