Charles Filmer
Charles Filmer (Service no 1305) was born in Sydney. On 26 December 1912, he had married Catherine Johnson and together they had 2 children.
At the time of enlistment, Charles was 24 years of age, married and employed as a carter.
Charles embarked on SS Hawkes Bay with the 12th Light Horse Regiment, 7th Reinforcements on 21 October 1915. He saw service in Egypt and the Middle East.
On 8 December 1916, Charles was wounded in action and admitted to hospital for treatment of contusions to his back. He was in a rest camp when 12th Light Horse Regiment took part in the Charge at Beersheeba.
Charles was returned to Australia in March 1919 and discharged on 17 May 1919.
Charles later married a second time in 1933 to Susan Scott.
Charles died in Sydney, NSW in 1972.
Charles Filmer was an Aborigonal Soldier and is remembered on the Albion Park Roll of Honor.
