David Henry Harris
David Henry Harris (Service No 3702), was born in Balgownie, N.S.W., around 1893.
At enlistment, he was single, 23 years old and worked as a bread carter and miner.
David embarked on HMAT A69 Warialda, with the Tunnelling Company 4, Headquarters 1, on 22nd May 1916. He joined 1st Tunnelling Company in the field, on 30th September 1916. He saw service as a miner on the Western Front.
David was admitted to hospital due to sickness, on 26th October 1917, returning to duty on 13th January 1918. He returned to Australia in June 1919, and was discharged on 20th December 1919.
In 1922, David married Susan Simpson, in Wollongong, N.S.W., and remained in the area for the rest of his life.
David is commemorated for his service on the Balgownie War Memorial and the Mount Kembla Dougherty Lodge Honor Roll.
David's brother Robert (Service No 3788), also served.
