William John King
William King (Service no 4822) was born in Narranderra, NSW in 1896.
At the time of enlistment William was single, 19 years of age, employed as a clerk, resided in Thirroul, NSw and had served 6 months with the Senior Cadets.
William embarked on HMAT A15 - Star of England with the 13th Battalion, 15th Reinforcements on 8 March 1916. He arrived in Egypt and was posted to the 5th Cyclist Corps on 16 April 1916.
William arrived in France on 15 June 1916 and saw service on the western Front with the Cyclist units. William was wounded in action on 22 April 1917 and was evacuated to hospital for treatment of gun shot wound to his thigh. William was returned to duty on 6 May 1917.
In 1918, William was transferred to the Signals Corps where he served until the end of the War.
William returned to Australia in July 1919 and was discharged. He died in 1984.
