Sidney Marshall (Service No 3861), was born in Glamorgan, Wales.

At enlistment, he was single, 22 years old, worked as a miner and lived in Thirroul, N.S.W.

Sidney embarked on HMAT A54 Runic, with 19th Battalion, 9th Reinforcement, on 20th January 1916. He arrived in Egypt on 26th February 1916, and was transferred to 55th Battalion, C Company. Sidney arrived in France on 3rd April 1916, with the battalion.

On 20th July 1916, after the Battle for Fromelles, he was listed as missing. Sidney had been taken prisoner, and spent the rest of the war, as a prisoner in Germany. He was repatriated to England on 13th December 1918, and after some leave, was returned to Australia in March 1919. He was discharged on 17th June 1919.

Sidney married Lynda Redshaw, in Bulli, N.S.W., on 19th July 1919, and the couple had 3 children.

Sidney died in 1986.
