Fred Platt
Fred Platt (Service no 1014) was born in Sydney, NSw .
At the time of enlistment, Fred was single, 23 years of age, employed as a labourer and resided in Wollongong, NSW.
Fred embarked on HMAT A38 - Ulysses with the 13th Battalion, A Company on 22 December 1914. He arrived in Egypt and was sent to Gallipoli, Turkey with 13th Battalion landing on the afternoon of 25 April 1914.
During the August campaign the 13th Battalion suffered heavy casualties attacking Hill 971. Fred was wounded on 14 August 1915 and evacuated to hospital for treatment of a gun shot wound to upper extremities.
Fred rejoined his unit in Egypt on 15 January 1916 but was admitted to hospital sick and repatriated to Australia in June 1916. Fred was medically discharged on 18 September 1916 with heart trouble.
On 10 September 1918, Fred married Nora Elder in Sydney, NSW.
Fred enlisted for service in WW2 and served as NX39679 Private Platt from 25 July 1941 until being medically discharged on 4 December 1944. He was an electrician with 2/2nd Workshop and served in Australia and overseas.
Fred had one son and two daughters who also served.
