William Henry Rawlinson
William Henry Rawlinson was born in Stockport, Cheshire, England.
He came to Australia, with his wife Florence, after many years service with the British Army. William served as Sapper Rawlinson (Service No 29415) for 14 years with the Royal Engineers and 3 years with the 4th Cheshire Rifles.
At enlistment, he was married, 42 years old, worked as a builder and contractor and lived in Kiama, N.S.W.
William embarked on HMAT A35 Berrima, as Honorary Lieutenant Quartermaster, 20th Battalion Headquarters, on 25th June 1915. He landed in Gallipoli, Turkey, on 16th August 1915, and served until the evacuation. William returned to Egypt, and was granted permission to return to Australia in March 1916, for discharge on 22nd April 1916.
William died in Sydney, N.S.W., in 1943, and is buried in Woronora Cemetery, Sutherland, N.S.W.
