John Close (Service No 4510), was born in Durham, England around 1894, arriving in Australia around 1913.

At enlistment in Kiama, N.S.W., he stated he was single, 22 years old, worked as a miner and lived in Helensburgh, N.S.W. The only information available is on his army file.

John embarked on HMAT A72 Beltana, with 30th Battalion, 12th Reinforcement, on 25th November 1916. He arrived in England on 29th January 1917, and after training, joined the 30th Battalion in France, on 28th May 1917. John saw service on the Western Front, and received a minor wound on 28th September 1917, but remained on duty. John was returned to Australia in July 1919, and discharged on 28th September 1919.

Johns died in Lisarow, N.S.W., aged 38 years.
