Sydney Collings
Sydney Collings (Service no 3319) was born in Wollongong, NSW and enlisted in October 1916. At the time of enlistment Sydney was single, 25 years of age, employed as a builder, resided in Wollongong, NSW and had previously served 3 years in the Senior Cadets.
Sydney embarked on HMAT A72 - Beltana with the 1st Pioneer Battalion, 8th Reinforcements on 25 November 1916. He arrived in England on 25 January 1917 and joined the 1st Pioneer Battalion in France on 18 February 1918 after service in England.
On 25 August 1918, Sydney was admitted to hospital wounded as a result of a gas attack. He was returned to Australia in July 1919 and discharged on 4th September 1919.
On 14 November 1921 he married Clara Wilson in Wollongong, NSW and together they had 2 children.
Sydney died in Goulburn, NSW in 1982.
Sydney's brother Reuben Collings (Service no 1520) also served and was killed in action in France in November 1916.
