James McCulloch
James McCulloch (Service No 3883), was born in Queensland around 1890.
At enlistment, he was single, 25 years old, worked as a tram conductor and lived in Thirroul, N.S.W.
James embarked on HMAT A54 Runic, with the 17th Battalion, 9th Reinforcement, on 20th January 1916. He arrived in Egypt in March 1916, and then went France, arriving on 3rd April 1916. James was transferred to the 20th Battalion, on 16th May 1916.
On 3rd January 1917, he was transferred to the 5th Machine Gun Battalion, and served with them until the end of the war. James was returned to Australia in May 1919, and discharged on 27th August 1919.
On 2nd August 1922, James married Catherine Condon, in Wollongong, N.S.W.
The marriage failed and they were divorced in May 1934.
James McCulloch is commemorated for his service, on the Thirroul Cenotaph, Woodward Memorial Park, Thirroul, N.S.W.
