Patrick Meechan
Patrick Meechan (Service No 7040), stated he was 33 years old, married, worked as a railway employee and lived in Stanwell Park, N.S.W. He enlisted in Wollongong, N.S.W., and listed his wife Eliza, in Scotland, as his next of kin.
Patrick embarked on HMAT A72 Beltana, with 13th Battalion, 23rd Reinforcement, on 25th November 1916. He arrived in England on 3rd March 1917, having missed the ship in Cape Town, South Africa, and being re-embarked from there.
Patrick arrived in France on 16th November 1917, and joined 34th Battalion, on 21st November 1917. He spent most of 1917, AWOL and undergoing punishment. On 11th April 1918, he was wounded in action, and evacuated to 55th Field Ambulance for treatment of gun shot wounds to his right arm and left thigh. Patrick succumbed to his wounds and died the same day.
Parick is buried in St Pierre Cemetery, Amiens, France.
