Christopher Mickalson (Service No 1402), was born in Sydney, N.S.W., around 1880.

At enlistment, he was single, 36 years old, worked as a plumber and lived in Helensburgh, N.S.W. Christopher listed his brother Carl, of Helensburgh, N.S.W., as his next of kin. He stated he had served 4 years with the Naval Reserve in Newcastle, N.S.W.

On 13th May 1916, Christopher embarked on HMAT A72 Beltana, with 36th Battalion, Headquarters, arriving in England on 9th July 1916. He joined 36th Battalion, D Company, in France, on 22nd November 1916 and saw service on the Western Front. 

Christopher was admitted to hospital due to sickness on 19th April 1918, and evacuated to England, suffering from gas poisoning. He was repatriated to Australia in June 1918, and discharged medically unfit on 28th August 1918.
