Walter Pearson (Service no 4274) was born in Avondale in the Illawarra Region, NSW  in 1883.

At the time of enlistment in Lismore, Walter was single, 31 years of age, employed as a farm labourer and had listed his father at Albion Park, NSW as his next of kin.

Walter embarked from Brisbane, Queensland on HMAT A55 - Kyarra with the 9th Battalion, 13th Reinforcements on 3 January 1916.  He arrived in Egypt on 19 February 1916 and was sent to France on 4 April 1916.

Walter joined the 9th Battalion on 14 August 1916 where he saw service on the Western Front.

Walter returned to Australia in May 1919 and was discharged on 28 August 1919.

Walter died in Murwillumbah, NSW in 1958 and is remembered on the Marshall Mount Public School Roll of Honor.

Walter had 2 brothers who enlisted in 1918 for Home Service.
