Ernest Oswald Parrish
Ernest Oswald Parrish (Service No 3353) was born in Kiama, N.S.W
The Parrish family moved to Queensland when Ernest was a child.
In 1909, he was hit in the right eye with a bullock whip and was rendered blind in that eye.
At enlistment Ernest was 21 years old, single and employed as a farmer.
He embarked on HMAT A20 Hororata with the 41st Battalion, 8th Reinforcement, on 14 June 1917.
Ernest arrived in England on 26 August 1917 and made his way to France, at which time his blindness was discovered.
He was returned to Australia in May 1918 and medically discharged on 7 August 1918.
On 9th September 1925, Ernest married Minnie Jesberg, in Queensland and the couple had one child.
On 16th June 1942, Ernest enlisted for service in WW2 and served as Q142030 with the 1st Garrison Battalion until 9th October 1942.
Ernest's brothers, Oliver Parrish (Service No 103) and Edward Parrish (Service No 6915), also served.
