Edward Wootan
Edward Wootan was born in Wallsend, NSW in 1877.
At the time of enlistment he was married, 40 years of age, employed as a miner and resided in Wollongong, NSW.
In 1905 he had married Martha Steel and together they had 5 children.
Edward enlisted on 14 August 1916 but was discharged soon after from the Kiama, NSW camp.
To enlist again, it appears that he changed his surname from Wooton to Wootan. Edward listed his address as post office in Wollongong, NSW but records indicate that he lived in Mount Kembla, NSW.
Edward embarked on HMAT A24 - Benalla with the 38th Battalion, 5th Reinforcements on 9 November 1916. He arrived in England on 9 January 1917 and joined the 38th Battalion in France on 30 April 1917.
Edward was wounded on 7 June 1917 and admitted to hospital for treatment for shell shock. He was repatriated to Australia in November 1917 and medically discharged on 5 February 1918.
Edward died in 1959 and is buried in Mount Kembla Cemetery.
