Robert Thomas Bryen
Robert Bryen (Service No 3372) was born in Dapto, N.S.W.
At enlistment Robert was single, 22 years old, worked as a clerk, and was living in Tamworth, N.S.W. He had previously volunteered for 3 years service in the Militia.
Robert embarked from Sydney on HMAT A68 Anchises with 56th Battalion, 9th Reinforcements, on 24th January 1917. He arrived in England on 27th March 1917 and joined 56th Battalion in France on 17th November 1917.
Robert saw service on the Western Front until he was wounded in action on 2nd September 1918. He was evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of gun shot wounds to his left arm and right thigh.
He was returned to Australia in January 1919 and discharged medically unfit on 16th April 1919.
On 1st December 1921 Robert married Amy Barnett and returned to work with the Commercial Bank and eventually became a manager.
Robert enlisted in World War II (Service No NX112633), serving with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and served in Western Australia until dscharged on 20th August 1944.
Robert died in 1971.
Robert's brother, Frederick Bryen (Service No 6287) also served and was killed at Passchendaele on 4th October 1917.
