John Burgess (Service No 4448) was born in Wollongong, N.S.W.

At enlistment John was single, 32 years old, and worked as a farmer at Bonville, via Coffs Harbour, N.S.W.

He embarked on from Sydney HMAT A70 Ballarat with 13th Battalion, 14th Reinforcements on 16th February 1916 and arrived in Egypt on 22nd March 1916.

On 1st April 1916 John was transferred to 54th Battalion.  He saw some service in Egypt but was admitted to hospital on 17th April 1916 with bronchitis.

John was repatriated to Australia in July 1916 and discharged medically unfit on 2nd November 1916.

He died in Parramatta, N.S.W. in 1957.
