Robert Doyle is known only by the information on his enlistment documents.

Robert stated he was born in Sydney in 1897, was single, 19 years of age, employed as a miner and had served 2 years previously in the Militia.   He had listed a friend in Wollongong as next of kin and stated his parents were both deceased.

Robert embarked on HMAT A15 - Star of England with the 17th Battalion, 10th Reinforcements on 8 March 1916.   He arrived in England on 4 June 1916 and joined the 17th Battalion in France on 15 September 1916.

On 10 February 1917 Robert was injured when he tripped while leaving the front trench and injured his knee.   He was admitted to hospital for treatment on his left knee but the decision was made to return him to Australia.

Robert was returned to Australia in September 1917 and was medically discharged with a pension on 20 December 1917. 

A letter on file states he was working for the Railways in 1927.
