Harry Galpin
Harry Galpin (Service No 2076), was born in Dorset, England.
At enlistment, he was single, 34 years old, worked as a labourer, lived in Kiama, N.S.W., and had served 3 months with the Dorset Militia.
Harry embarked on HMAT A68 Anchises, with 35th Battalion, 3rd Reinforcement, on 24th August 1916. He arrived in England on 11th October 1916, and joined the 35th Battalion, in the field, on 11th March 1917. Harry saw service on the Western Front, until he was wounded in action, on 14th July 1917. He was evacuated to hospital in England, for treatment of a gun shot wound, to his right thigh. Harry was repatriated to Australia, in February 1918, and discharged medically unfit, on 6th June 1918.
Harry returned to work on the Stewart family farm, and in 1936, he married Alice Burton.
Harry died in Kiama, N.S.W., in 1952.
