Arthur Eugene Gates
Arthur Gates (Service No 118), was single, 23 years old and worked as an overseer, when he enlisted.
He embarked on HMAT A 29 Suevic, with 6th Light Horse Regiment, A Squadron, on 21st December 1914. Arthur disembarked in Egypt, then went to Gallipoli, Turkey, arriving on 13th July 1915. He served there until 16th August 1915, when he was evacuated having suffered with enteric fever. Arthur was sent to hospital in England, and was discharged in London, England, on 31st December 1915, for the purpose of taking a commission with the Royal Field Artillery.
On 22nd September 1921, Arthur married Vivien Woods, in Sydney, N.S.W., and they had one child.
On 10th December 1942, he enlisted as Captain Gates (Service No NX133958), and served with the 11th Garrison Battalion, until 16th April 1944.
Arthur died in Canberra, A.C.T., in 1951.
