Henry George Greive French Harrison
Henry Harrison (Service no 5490) was born in Sydney, NSW. Henry Harrison was resident in the Ballarat Orphanage in Victoria from 1896 until 1910.
At the time of enlistment Henry was single, 23 years of age, employed as a carpenter and resided in Woonona, NSW. Henry had listed his uncle, Joseph Worral, as his next of kin.
Henry embarked on HMAT A71 - Nestor with the 13th Battalion, 17th Reinforcements on 9 April 1916. He arrived in England on 8 June 1916 and joined the 1st ANZAC Cyclist Battalion as a Signaller in France on 5 December 1916. Henry saw service on the Western Front and returned to Australia in July 1919 for discharge on 7 December 1919.
Henry enlisted for service in World War 2, N249504 Corporal Harrison with 11th Battalion Volunteer Defence Corps, part time from 17 June 1942 until 29 March 1944. Henry listed his wife Gladys Harrison as his next of kin.
A tree was planted in the Ballarat Orphanage along the Arthur Kenny Avenue of Honour during the World War 1 Centenary Commemorations for Henry Harrison.
