Francis Herbert Pearson
Francis Herbert Pearson (Service No 2684), was born in Bulli, N.S.W.
On 9th November 1915, he married Phyllis Purves.
At enlistment he was 24 years old, worked as a miner and lived in Newcastle, N.S.W.
Francis embarked on HMAT A11 Ascanius, with the 35th Battalion, 5th Reinforcement, on 25th October 1916. He arrived in England on 28th December 1916, and joined the 35th Battalion, in the field, on 9th April 1917. He saw service on the Western Front, until he was wounded in action at Ypres, Belgium, on 12th October 1917. Francis was evacuated to hospital for treatment of gun shot wounds to his left knee. He was repatriated to Australia in January 1918, and discharged medically unfit, on 6th April 1918. A pension was granted to Francis, his wife, and 2 children. The couple eventually had 4 children.
On 26th January 1944, Francis enlisted for service in WW2 and served as Private Pearson (Service No N470255), with the 5th Battalion Volunteer Defence Corps, until 3rd April 1944. He listed his occupation at that time, as a rabbit inspector.
