Henry Rawlinson - TESS
Henry Rawlinson (Service No 5212), was born in Sydney, N.S.W.
Henry joined the Waratah March and enlisted in Kiama, N.S.W.
At enlistment, he was single, 23 years old, worked as a clerk and had served 2 years with the Militia. He embarked on SS Makarini with the 1st Battalion, 16th Reinforcement, on 1st April 1916. Henry disembarked in Egypt on 2nd May 1916, and went to France, where he joined the 1st Battalion, on 27th July 1916. He saw service on the Western Front and was accidently wounded on 30th September 1916. Henry was evacuated to hospital for treatment of a gun shot wound to his back. He returned to the 1st Battalion on 22nd February 1917, and served until the end of the war. Henry was returned to Australia in June 1919, and discharged on 28th August 1919.
In 1920, Henry married Irene Butler, and they raised 2 daughters. Henry played Rugby League for the Nowra Warriors.
Henry is commemorated for his service on the Nowra Post Office and Nowra Showground Rolls of Honour.
