Maurice Rixon
Maurice Rixon was born in Bulli, N.S.W.
Maurice enlisted in Tasmania; he was single, 21 years old and worked as a miner. Initially given Service No 472, this was changed to Service No 1619 and documents with each of these service numbers exist. No reason for the change of service numbers appears to be recorded.
Maurice embarked from Hobart on HMAT A2 Geelong with 3rd Light Horse Regiment, C Squadron on 20th October 1914. He arrived in Egypt in December 1914 and on 11th April 1915 was transferred to 3rd Battalion, A Company.
Maurice arrived on Gallipoli and served there being admitted to the field ambulance sick on 18th May and again on 11th August 1915. On 25th April 1916 he was transferred to 4th Pioneer Battalion and arrived in France with them on11th June 1916.
On 3rd August 1916 he was wounded in action and evacuated to hospital for treatment of multiple gun shot wounds to his face, side and left knee.
On 22nd October 1916 he married Ellen Holmes in Norfolk, England and was charged as being AWOL a number of times after this time.
Maurice was returned to Australia with his wife in July 1919 and discharged on 9th September 1919.
