Norman Leopold McClintock
Norman McClintock (Service no 731) was born in Wingham, NSW in 1886.
At the time of enlistment Norman was single and 28 years of age. He listed his mother at Kiama, NSW as his next of kin.
Norman embarked on HMAT A8 - Argyllshire with Field Artillery Brigade 1, Battery 1 on 18 October 1914. After time in Egypt, he was posted to Gallipoli, Turkey landing in April 1915. Norman was wounded in action on 2 June 1915 and evacuated to hospital for treatment of a gun shot wound to his leg. Norman returned to duty on 28 July 1915 and served until the evacuation from Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey.
On 6 March 1916 Norman was posted to 101st Battery and was sent to France with them on 1 April 1916. He saw service on the Western Front and was wounded a second time on 3 November 1917. Norman was evacuated to hospital in England to receive treatment for his injuries from a gas attack.
Norman remained in England until he was returned to Australia in September 1918 and medically discharged due to a knee injury on 22 March 1919.
While on active service he wrote many letters home describing his life at the front and thse were published in the local papers.
Norman is remembered on the Kiama War Memorial.
In 1933 he married Ann Campbell in Wingham, NSW.
Norman died in 1956.
Norman's brother, Aubrey McClintock (Service no 3859) also served.
