Leonard James Scott
Leonard Scott (Service No 221) was born in Carlisle, Cumberland, England and had served 5 years with the Border Regiment, Carlisle, before he came to Australia.
At enlistment Leonard was single, 29 years old, employed as a policeman and lived in Helensburgh, N.S.W. A few days before he embarked, On 12th October 1914, he married Lillian Piccinelli at Helensburgh.
Leonard embarked from Sydney on HMAT A23 Suffolk with 2nd Battalion, B Company on 18th October 1914. After training in Egypt he landed at Gallipoli on 25th April but was wounded in action on 28th April. He was evacuated to hospital for treatment of a shell wound to his thigh.
Leonard returned to his unit on 17th June 1915 and was promoted to Corporal on 28th August 1915.
He became ill and was evacuated again to hospital with enteritis and shortly after was repatriated to Australia in November 1915. Leonard was discharged medically unfit on 3rd September 1916 due to enteric fever and his leg wound.
Leonard was a champion amateur wrestler. He and Lillian had 2 children. Leonard died in 1975.
