Sidney Smith (Service no 2876) was born in Helensburgh, NSW in 1872.
In 1892 he had married Martha Northey and together they had 2 children.
At the time of enlistment Sidney was married, 44 years of age and employed as a miner. He embarked on HMAT A72 - Beltana with the 35th Battalion, 6th Reinforcements on 25 November 1916.
Sidney arrived in England on 29 January 1917 but was deemed unfit for active service due to serious dental issues that required major work.
He was returned to Australia in January 1918 and medically discharged on 16 April 1918.
