William Charles Cecil Wright
William Wright (Service No 7069) was born in Dapto, N.S.W.
At enlistment William was single, 25 years old, worked as a labourer and lived at Pomona in Queensland. Prior to embarking, on 17th October 1916, William married Elsie Sallway.
He embarked from Brisbane on HMAT A72 Beltana with 15th Battalion, 23rd Reinforcement on 25th November 1916. He arrived in England on 29th January 1917 and joined 15th Battalion in France on 12th June 1917.
William was wounded in action on 3rd July 1917 but appears to have remained on duty. On 20th July 1917 he was admitted to hospital suffering from tonsilitis and this became an ongoing issue for him.
William saw service on the Western Front. He was wounded a second time on 18th September 1918 and was admitted to hospital for treatment of a gun shot wound to his ear.
William was granted leave for work in England from 17th April 1919 until 23rd July 1919.
He returned to Australia in September 1919 aand was discharged on 15th December 1919.
