William Lewis Williams (Service No 62) was born in Abermain, Wales around 1877.

At enlistment, he was single, 38 years old, worked as a mining engineer, lived in Woonona, N.S.W., and had served with the Illawarra Light Horse Militia.

William embarked on HMAT A35 Berrima, with the 20th Battalion, C Company, on 25th June 1915. He arrived in Egypt and was sent to Gallipoli, Turkey, with the 20th Battalion. William was admitted to hospital in Egypt on 11th January 1916, with diptheria. On 25th March 1916, he went with the battalion to France . William saw service on the Western Front and in 1917 was transferred to 6th Field Ambulance. He was returned to Australia in April 1919 and discharged medically unfit on 20th August 1919.

On 30th December 1919, he married Eleanor Palmer, in Warwick, Queensland and they had one child.

William died in 1957.
