Archibald Cook Henderson
Archibald Henderson (Service No 8119) was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and arrived in Australia in 1913.
At enlistment Archibald was single, 26 years old, worked as a coal miner and lived at Bulli, NSW. He embarked from Melbourne on board SS Indarra with Tunnelling Companies, June 1917 Reinforcements, on 26th November 1917. He arrived in England on 2nd February 1918 and joined 3rd Tunnelling Company in France on 26th May 1918.
Archibald saw service on the Westrn Front; he was granted leave for work in Glasgow from 26th June 1919 until 26th September 1919. While in Glasgow he married Annie Jones on 8th September 1919. They returned to Australia in February 1920 and he was discharged from the AIF on 12th March 1920.
There is a letter on Archibald's NAA file giving permission for his mother and brother to come to Australia as well.
Archibald and Annie had 3 children, but the marriage failed and they divorced in 1930.
He enlisted for service in World War II 14th February 1941 (Service No N103652) and served as a Private with 7th Garrison Battalion until 17th November 1943.
Archibald died in Richmond, NSW in 1981.
