Robert Moncrieff Bellis
Robert Bellis was born in Corowa, NSW.
At enlistment Robert was single, 25 years old, worked as a school teacher and lived at Kiama, NSW. Robert had studied at Sydney University and had also spent 9 months with the Cadets.
He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A14 Euripides with 6th Light Horse Regiment, 11th Reinforcement on 2nd November 1915 and arrived in Egypt on 27th December 1915. He joined A Squadron and saw service in Egypt and the Middle East.
Robert had a number of hospital admissions for sickness, and contracted malaria in July 1918. He was returned to Australia in February 1919 and was discharged medically unfit on 7th June 1919.
In 1920 Robert sailed for America. On 9th June 1923 he married Lucille Elder in Idaho and they raised 2 children. Robert spent the rest of his life in the United States and died in Oregan in 1971.
