Frederick Thomas Critcher
Frederick Critcher (Service no 3663) was born in Woonona, NSW.
In 1908 he married Beatrice Buchanan and together they had 5 children, however, the marriage had broken down when he enlisted.
At the time of enlistment, Frederick was married, 27 years of age, employed as a miner and resided in Corrimal, NSW.
Frederick embarked on SS Port Darwin with the Camel Corps Reinforcements on 30 April 1918. He arrived in Egypt on 17 June and was posted to the 1st Light Horse Regiment on 9 August 1918. He saw service in Egypt and the Middle East and like many soldiers in that area he was admitted to hospital on 3 March 1919 with Malaria. He was returned to Australia in March 1919 and medically discharged on 1 December 1919.
Frederick was a patient at Prince of Wales Hospital in 1935.
Frederick Critcher (N409972) enlisted on 18 July 1942 and served with the 20th Garrison Battalion until 27 May 1943 and he listed his wife, Beatrice, as next of kin.
Frederick was killed in Maitland as a result of being hit by a car.
Frederick is remembered on the Bulli Woonona Memorial.
His brother, Herbert Critcher (Service no 2244) and cousin, Thomas Critcher (Service no 555), who died on 25 April 1915, also served.
