WIlliam Robert Powell Houslar
William Houslar (Service no 1210/1850) was born in Wollongong, NSW in 1895.
At the time of enlistment, William was single, 20 years of age, employed as storeman and had previously served in the Militia.
William embarked on HMAT A40 - Ceramic with the 19th Battalion, D Company on 25 June 1915, but after arriving in Egypt he was returned to Australia in September due to ill health.
William embarked again on HMAT A17 - Port Lincoln with the 60th Battalion, 3rd Reinforcements on 4 May 1916. He arrived in England and went to France on 8 August 1916 where he was posted to the 58th Battalion on 30 September 1916.
William served on the Western Front until 29 December 1916. He was admitted to hospital sick and returned to Australia in August 1917 after being diagnosed with Synovitis of his right knee. He was medically discharged on 29 October 1917 with a pension.
William married and together with his wife raised 5 children.
William's brother Charles Houslar (Service no 5717) also served.
