Charles Houslar (Service no 5717) was born in Wollongong, NSW in 1898. 

At the time of enlistment, Charles was single, 18 years of age, employed as a council clerk and had previously served 4 years with the Cadets.

Charles embarked on HMAT A36 - Boonah with the 4th Battalion,18th Reinforcements on 13 June 1916. He arrived in England on 3 August 1916 and joined 4 Battalion in France on 5 November 1916.

Charles was wounded in action at Bullecourt, France on 5 May 1917 and admitted to hospital in England for treatment of a shrapnel wound to his left elbow.  He returned to duty in France on 25 April 1918.

Charles was returned to Australia in May 1919 and was discharged on 26th July 1919.

In early 1922 he married Ella Hollier in Sydney but he died soon after in August that same year.

His brother William Houslar (Service no 1210)  also served.
