Walter Smith (Service No 3126) was born in Bathurst, N.S.W. around 1891.

At enlistment Walter was single, 25 years old, worked as a draper and lived in Kiama, N.S.W.  He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A68 Anchises with 35th Battalion, 7th Reinforcement on 24th January 1917.

He arrived in England on 27th March 1917 and was posted to 33rd Battalion in France on 13th January 1918.

Walter saw service on the Western Front until 4th April 1918 when he was wounded in action.  He was evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of a gun shot wound to his left thigh.  Deemed unfit for further active service Walter was repatriated to Australia in June 1918 and finally discharged medically unfit on 21st February 1919.

On 11th September 1919 he married Beatrice Sandry in Bathurst, N.S.W.

Walter died in 1973.
