Robert Ernest Stubbs
Robert Stubbs (Service No 4539) was born in Hartley Vale, Victoria, around 1888.
At enlistment Rober was single, 27 years old, worked as a miner and lived in Woonona, N.S.W. He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A71 Nestor with 17th Battalion, 11th Reinforcement on 9th April 1916 and arrived in England on 4th June 1916. He joined 17th Battalion in France on 9th October 1916 and saw service on the Western Front. Happily, Robert was not wounded during his service, but he did suffer from various illnesses while on active service.
He returned to Australia in May 1919 and was discharged on 19th August 1919.
Robert died in Wollongong in 1965.
His service is commemorated on the Bulli-Woonona War Memorial.
